A bit of background

Harborn has been building the digital world since 1999. In the early years we were focused on web, but now we’ve grown into a broad software house. We have a track-record of over 1,000 digital projects, winning awards and hackathons (including DIA awards) and even creating many new companies. Entrepreneurship is in our DNA. That’s what makes us one of the best high-end digital agencies in the Netherlands.

Where will data and artificial intelligence take us in the future? These are questions that our teams are working on now. Modernising software systems, as well as entire IT ecosystems.

Our daily work involves four multidisciplinary development teams, each with its own specialism. Talent and passion are the keys to our success. Making great work is important, but if it isn’t fun, we’re doing something wrong. Harborn gives you energy. Going to work is about feeling very much at home. That’s always our goal!

So, what will you be doing?

  • Develop innovative and user-friendly online solutions;
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team with seven other developers (frontend and backend), a UX designer and a digital entrepreneur (responsible for business matters);
  • Work closely with your customers to develop online solutions. At Harborn the customer is product owner of the project and part of your team;
  • Take on the development of backend user stories. For example, develop an API for an Angular or Vue frontend, or add new functionality to an existing library;
  • Choose a design pattern that suits the problem, ensuring good test coverage for your code;
  • After making a pull request for your code, continue with the next user story;
  • Also, take a critical look at a pull request from your colleague. Reviews of pull requests are part of the job. All code is checked by at least one other developer before it is allowed to enter the codebase.
The rich technological knowledge within the team will improve your skills. Your knowledge will improve theirs! We always work with the four-eyes principle. A second developer always checks your code, and vice versa.

What do you bring to the party?

  • Expertise in backend (internet) techniques such as PHP, Symfony, MySQL, Docker, Elastic search, etc.;
  • A good command of the better known (object-oriented) design patterns;
  • Background education in Communicatie Multimedia Design, Creative Media and Game Technologies or Informatica;
  • Experience with Scrum;
  • Ideally, you can challenge and enrich our company, with your knowledge of other languages, such as Python or Ruby;
  • Knowledge of Amazon Web Services is an advantage;
  • Assured in front-end techniques such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Typescript, Angular, ReactJS, Vue.js etc. is valued;
  • The ability to explain the problem and the possible solutions to a (non-technical) customer is much appreciated.

Meet your teammates!
